Spirituality, as expressed by George Bates.
George was a spiritual guide for many people who knew him. As a middle class father and blue collar worker it was surprising that such a man could have such openness and thirst for spiritual experiences and knowledge. His children, who may not have understood his actions during his life, have become his legacy. All are courageous in questioning of religious and social norms, having been passed down that same curiosity. We all innately know there is more to life than what is taught in school or expressed by society. We wish to experience life by more that just the five senses.
George met with others that the family called his “prayer group”. He gave his time and of him self to compile writings to inspire them in their own spiritual journey. In clearing out George’s desk, hand written documents were collected of these lessons as well as his keepsakes of favorite lyrics and poems. The page called “Dad’s writings” shares Georges lessons and joys with all.
Writings
George’s creativity reflected in his artwork was another expression of his spiritual vision. The gallery of his paintings and stained glass work contain inspired pieces that reflect his mind.
